Nope!

Strawberry Protein Squares using Strawberry Shakeology, almond butter, almond milk and rolled oats was a Nope! Thrice times. The first time I thought the oats were bad and I didn't use protein powder. The consistency was bad and it looked NOTHING like the picture in the book. Nope! The second time, I used vanilla protein powder, fresh oats, skim milk and a blender. It was a spreading disaster. Some of it was mixed. Some was not. It was sticky and gross. Nope! The third (and last time that should've been the charm) I stirred the ingredients in a bowl and placed in the 'fridge for 2+ hours. This batch looked closer to the picture in the booklet, yet mine were still soft when I cut into them. I put them back in the 'fridge...so far, they are a NOPE! We will see if that changes. So, I went online to research if anyone had any sort of success with this recipe. I found a blogger who did. She used real peanut butter instead of almond butter and coconut milk. She had success and seemed to enjoy the recipe without any issues that she mentioned in her blog. She also appeared to use Shakeology, which is Beach Body's/ 21 Day Fix's trademark protein powder. I cannot use Shakeology because it LITERALLY makes me vomit. In 2016, it took me a half a bag of the stuff (very expensive stuff, BTW) before realizing it was the Shakeology that was causing me to retch. It almost ruined protein powder of all flavors and varieties for me--even today, using vanilla protein powder that was not Shakeology in my protein bars caused me to wince. If I smell anything remotely reminiscent of Shakeology, I tend to get queasy. Sigh. So, while on this other blog about Strawberry Protein Bars, I found a recipe for an on program chocolate bar made with coconut oil and Shakeology (which I replaced with chocolate protein powder). After trying it, I found it to be an absolute abomination to my tastebuds. NOPE! The other people in the room tasting said it would only taste like chocolate to anyone who never tasted chocolate before. That went into the trash with a hasty toss. So, as I wait to do further research on other protein treat alternatives, I have the "strawberry" (cough cough "vanilla" cough cough) protein bars that I made earlier -- that hadn't firmed to the correct consistency in the 'fridge-- stashed in the freezer right now to see if that does anything to improve it. I am doubtful and hopeful at the same time. Here's to hoping your recipes turn out much better than mine did. For me, the quest to find a decent high protein treat continues.
May you walk in health and peace + continue to be most excellent, my peeps.
